Changes in Saga Subsea boosts growth and development

The last year and a half have been of tremendous significance for Saga Subsea. With new owners, a company reorganization and new funding – all giving room for growth and development.

– We’ve been through a process of finding out what the next big step will be for Saga Subsea. Especially the last six months have been substantial in this process, says managing director, Lene Bakken.

Bakken took over as managing director as of March last year. During the same time period long-time business developer, Helge Rasmussen – known for his success with companies such as CSUB and HighComp, was introduced to the company. After being a supporting resource for about a year, Rasmussen took over as chairman of the board and became one of the owners in March 2024.

As of today, Rasmussen and Tor Alme – which is one of the founders of the company, owns 50% of the shares each.

– Helge has extensive experience when it comes to running companies and business development. With his entry we got an industrial partner that we’ve never had before. He’s been an enormous resource when it comes to input on improvements, further investments and growth, says Alme.

– Saga Subseas approach to the market is unlike others. Not only do they rent out equipment, but they also offer a range of services, while keeping it narrow enough to be best of the class. With fantastic employees, the best location in Haugesund and a good reputation there’s good prospects for future development, says Rasmussen.

Following the change in ownership, new funding has made it possible to invest more into the company.

– This process has made us financially stronger. The new funding enables us to do more of internal projects and improvements, as well as strengthen our staffing, says Bakken.

Unified future strategy

The employees are a crucial and important part of Saga Subsea. That’s why the whole company has been involved in mapping out our new business strategy.

– All of us have been involved when deciding on what we’re going to focus on next. The strategy isn’t fully completed yet, but we have a clear vision for where we’re headed and how we are going to get there. We’re going to focus and invest on what we do best, and further develop and improve each of our four departments; Tooling, Agency & Vessel support, Engineering and Consultancy services, says Bakken.

– We work in a targeted and structured way to achieve this. Our employees already have cutting-edge skills within their respective fields, but it’s a continuous process to improve and streamline our work methods and processes, Alme continues.

Within Agency & Vessel support and Consultancy the goal is to keep on growing. Within the Tooling department we’re focusing more on self-developed tools and increasing our tool pool. Last but not least, our engineers are focusing on developing innovative specialized solutions – especially for splash zone interventions, whereas ROCS is a brilliant example. All of the above important to meet the challenges and needs of the offshore and oil & gas industry.

Recognized with ISO-9001

One of the milestones we are especially proud of this year is achieving the ISO-9001 certification. The certification shows that Saga Subsea is recognized for creating, implementing and maintaining a good quality management system.

– To achieve this certification, we have structured and improved internal processes. It also shows that we have met the demands and expectations of our customers consistently over time, says Bakken.

This is not the first recognition of quality that Saga Subsea has gotten. We are also a pre-qualified supplier in MagnetJQS.

Now we are looking forward to continuing to create innovative solutions for the offshore and oil& gas industry. The last couple of months Saga Subsea has made several new hires. And more are yet to come.

– Soon we’ll be running out of space in the parking lot, Alme jokes before he continues: – Jokes aside, our employees are our most important resource, and we are pleased to welcome so many new, skilled colleagues. There is a willingness and ability across the whole company, so the time we have ahead of us now is exciting.
