Meet Our New Design Engineer on Special Solutions, Ørjan!

We’ve strengthened our engineering team and are pleased to welcome Ørjan Gloppen onboard!

Impressed by his resume and solid expertise, we’re confident that he’s the guy to further strengthen our engineering team.

– My responsibilities includes assisting and contributing on our special solutions projects. Everything from the solutions themselves to the final 3D drawings and renders for fabrication.

Having his first day at Saga Subsea in August, Ørjan is more than ready to dive into the exciting projects we have scheduled for this fall.

– August being one of the summer months, the projects so far have been somewhat calmer and more general – which has been great during this period of onboarding. But there’s a lot of exciting projects ahead, and I can’t wait to be able to use more of my experience and knowledge from working on more advanced and larger projects.

An Aspiring MacGyver

With over a decade of experience working with offshore solutions in Deepocean, Ørjan brings a lot of valuable expertise to Saga Subsea.

And his career path? It comes as no surprise.

Safe to say, no electronic devices were safe in the presence of him growing up. He was known for being a real MacGyver, opening every broken device in the household and trying his best to fix them and put them back together. Underlying it all was a curiosity about how things were connected and functioned together, and a drive to create new, original inventions of his own.

– The majority of the time, the plan was to create something new. But the truth is that, most of the time, I was just really good at disassembling things, he says with a laugh before adding: – But at least I got a very good sense of how different components worked together, all from a very young age.

His drive to create unique and custom inventions didn’t fade with time. After finishing high school, Ørjan pursued a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from HVL, and later on a master’s degree in constructions and materials, with specialization in offshore structures, from UiS.

Ready For New Challenges

We’ve gotten to know Ørjan as a guy that values efficiency, straightforward communication and is open to new ideas and ways of doing things. That’s why he is a great fit with the rest of the gang.

– Due to the size of Saga Subsea, there’s short distances throughout the organisation all the way to the decision-makers, which creates a genuine feeling of being heard. The work environment is also very good, with friendly and welcoming colleagues, he says about his first months onboard.

Now he’s looking forward, excited to help our team solve the challenges our clients face.

– In this field of work, you must be open for new ideas. You can’t just stick to the traditional way of doing things, because in the challenges we are handed that just doesn’t do it.
