ROCS – REMOTELY OPERATED CAISSON SKID

At Saga Subsea, we continuously innovate to meet the evolving needs of the offshore and oil & gas industry. Our Remotely Operated Caisson Skid (ROCS), exemplifies our commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology tailored for complex underwater tasks.

WHAT IS ROCS?

The ROCS was developed in response to market demands and specific customer requests in 2023. The specific job in mind for the ROCS at the time of development was offshore platform caisson intervention and maintenance at Equinor’s Oseberg C.
Offshore platform caissons, large water pipes extending from platforms into the ocean, have a typical lifespan of 20-25 years. As many caissons across the Norwegian continental shelf approach the end of their operational life, the need for effective and efficient replacement solutions has become critical.

WHY ROCS?

The ROCS addresses this need with a modular design that accommodates the varying geometries and implementations of caissons across different platforms. This flexibility ensures that the ROCS can be reconfigured to suit specific job requirements, making it a versatile tool for caisson intervention and maintenance.

KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Modular Design: The ROCS features a modular approach, allowing for customizable configurations to meet diverse operational needs.
  • Stationary Operation: Unlike traditional ROVs, the ROCS can lock into place, maintaining stability in the challenging splash zone where waves and currents are strong.
  • Comprehensive Capabilities: The ROCS can perform a range of tasks, including cutting operations, cleaning, and securing objects, with subsequent site surveys included in its scope.

Efficiency and Safety: By keeping the vehicle stationary, the ROCS ensures precise and safe intervention, minimizing risks associated with offshore operations.

HOW ROCS WORKS

The ROCS is deployed from one of the lower decks of an offshore platform. It is lowered into the ocean using a winch, maneuvered into place with thrusters, and locked between caissons for stability. This setup allows it to perform its tasks effectively, regardless of the challenging underwater conditions.
